Thick Like Me

Thick Like Me

If You’re thick like me, then you know how hard it is to find jeans. I’ve been on a hunt for proper mom and boyfriend jeans, and they don’t seem to exist in my size. So when I found these in Zara, I felt like I hit the jackpot!

Shopping for clothes, especially bottoms is always a struggle for me. Not only am I thick, but I am very tall, with hips, and a lot of ass. You might be thinking ‘This is a good problem to have,’ and it is, but not when you’re shopping.

Sadly, a lot of brands JUST began making clothing for women with my body type. Even though there has been a cultural shift in fashion, my size is almost always sold out, and that’s due to the lack of quantity in stock. I get it, It costs more to make larger clothing, but it’s important to note that the world is filled with different body types, and everyone deserves to look good. I hope that in the near future, almost every brand will realize the value of selling bigger sizes. Representation is key!

Normally I’m a size 14 in jeans/pants. However, when they’re structured with no stretch, I have to size up so they can fit perfectly. Late last year I bought a pair of high-waisted jean shorts in Zara in a size 46. I was so shocked when I saw them because size 43 is usually the biggest. From this moment on, I knew where I could find most of my mom jeans. For reference, I am a size 46, which equates to a size 16/XL in Zara jeans.

Fun fact about me: I absolutely hate shopping in-store. The crowds, the slow check-out, and the fitting room lines are not it. Not to mention the hassle of going through perfectly folded clothes, only to find out your size isn’t there. I think that’s unnecessary energy that could’ve been spent on my computer clicking checkout.

This was a brunch fit. The first few times I shopped, nothing stood out to me. Then two days before brunch, I took my good luck charm with me shopping, MY MOM! She knows my shopping method because she’s the same way. We walk in stores, scan the room, and if nothing jumps out, we leave. The only difference with her being there, is she tells me to try something on before I say its ugly. I ended up with these jeans because of her.

I say this all to say, there is hope for us thicker women. If our clothing was so easy to find, we would be basic!
